One of our projects for our Design For Professional Practice module was titled “The Out of Box Experience”. This is a term used to describe a user’s first time experience with a new product. This focuses on every detail of this first encounter such as initial sighting, selection, purchase, unpacking, instructions, set-up and interaction between the product and the user.
Fleming Medical provided us with a range of their medical products, many of which we had never encountered before.
We were given a Compressor Nebuliser and had to document every aspect of the “Out Of Box Experience”, while researching other brands and products to give us a full overview of the product and its market, thus allowing us to develop new ideas and improvements to the product and its packaging.
After establishing a variety of need statements, I took the issue of improving the storage within the nebuliser’s box and developed my ideas from there.
Here are my storyboards outlining the initial problem with the storage and my ideation sketches and final concepts that would help rectify the issue.
